Madam C. J. Walker was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist. She is recorded as the first female self-made millionaire in America in the Guinness Book of World Records.

She is most famous for her hair products that literally changed the way black women were able to care for their hair.
The initial product was known as 'Madam Walker's Wonderful Hair Grower', which she began selling in 1907. Ingredients included precipitated sulfur, copper sulfate, beeswax, petroleum jelly, coconut oil and a violet extract perfume to cover the sulfur smell.
