The Diné painting is a painted collage on wood panel framed without glazing. The artwork is referencing hand silhouettes painted by ancient people found all over the world. These hand silhouettes, to me, are a sign of interconnectivity. In particular, the title "Diné" references a trip I took to Canyon de Chelly in Arizona. It is part of Native American land. The people that inhabit this land are often referred to as "Navajo." These people do not use that name. Navajo means thief in a neighboring tribe's dialect. This tribe's people refer to themselves as the Diné people.
